Fractional CMO FAQ's
Who is a Fractional CMO for?
This is the most common question we are asked.
Our Fractional CMO Service is a practical (some say ingenious) solution for companies who know they need high-level guidance and stewardship with their marketing, technology or operations; but either don’t have 100% clarity on their exact needs, or can’t justify the cost of a high-priced full-time executive (or two).
We provide this expertise with marketing, brand strategy, technology, AI, integrations, services and more; either part-time or on-demand. This gives you access to expert advice and input, like you would an attorney or CPA, without the cost or commitment of hiring someone.
We typically work for owner-operated small businesses with annual sales between $500k – $3.5M. Companies this size often lack senior team members with expertise in marketing or technology, but could greatly benefit from it.
For instance, two partners with a business generating $1.5M annually are obviously highly intelligent and successful; but do they truly understand how to effectively utilize AI to automate redundant tasks in a CRM / ERP system to lower operational costs, or steps to take to improve SEO to generate free website traffic to increase ROI, or what software systems they should be running?
We can fill these roles at a fraction of the cost a full-time VP of Marketing or I.T. would cost.
How does a Fractional CMO work?
We have 2 business models for our Fractional CMO Services: Ongoing and On Demand.
- Engagement: We engage with you, the business owners, your Board, or senior management on a part-time basis.
- Integration: We integrate into your team, often visiting your site on a regular schedule.
- Role Presentation: We are presented and operate as an intrinsic part of your employee structure rather than external contractors.
- Training: We can train members of your team on many aspects of sales, marketing and customer service.
- Objective: Our focus is to collaborate closely with your in-house team to drive your business goals forward continuously.
- Engagement: This model operates on a retainer basis, where you have access to our services as needed without a fixed schedule. This is similar to having an attorney on retainer.
- Initial Onboarding: Initially, we might spend some time at your location to get acquainted with your business operations.
- Remote Engagement: After the initial visit(s), our engagement is primarily remote, reducing the need for regular on-site presence to reduce expenses and maximize ROI.
- Objective: To provide strategic marketing support when required, allowing flexibility for both your company and ours.
How much does a Fractional CMO cost?
There’s no simple answer for this question, as every client we have worked with had different needs, requirements and goals; but it’s surprisingly affordable.
- Ongoing support will typically fall within a range of $3,000 – $10,000 per month.
- On-demand support will typically fall within a range of $1,500 – $5,000 per month.
We often pay for ourselves by renegotiating vendor and supplier agreements and auditing & reviewing technology, marketing and other operational expenses.

Are there things a CMO does not do?
Engaging a Fractional CMO means integrating our Founder into your organization on a part-time basis. This role involves senior-level strategy, planning, oversight and leadership duties; and typically does not include operational tasks such as making sales calls, updating websites, sending email campaigns, posting on social media and so on…
We can train your existing staff to perform these tasks at a fraction of the cost, or we can assist in recruiting the appropriate personnel for these roles.
We prefer not to promote our other services concurrently when providing CMO services to maintain professional integrity. However, should you decide that utilizing additional services from Red State Web are beneficial to your business, we are prepared to offer these at a significant discount in order to cover our operational expenses.

Will we travel or work on-site?
Yes, we actually prefer to work on-site if possible. We do require at least one (1) on-site visit prior to an official engagement, and depending on your location and needs, regular travel for on-site visits will be included in our agreement.
